Welcome to Episode 3 of my FIFA 19 Marseille Career Mode series! Last month, we lost to Monaco but otherwise had a good month with wins over Lyon and Lille.

This month, we’ve got three matches in Ligue 1 and two Europa League games against Eintracht Frankfurt and Lazio.

Let’s see how we got on in Episode 3 of this FIFA 19 Marseille Career Mode series.

October 2018

Eintracht Frankfurt (Europa League)

Team News:

  • Steve Mandanda starts in goal, with Tomas Hubocan, Gregory Sertic, Adil Rami, and Bouna Sarr forming the backline.
  • Kevin Strootman and Maxime Lopez form the midfield duo.
  • Valere Germain starts up front, with Clinton Njie, Dimitri Payet, and Florian Thauvin providing support.

Match Report:

  • Lopez fires us into the lead in the 26th minute after some good link up play.
  • Germain then gets on the scoresheet just before half-time with to make it 2-0.
  • In the second half, Njie slots in a third goal after some great team play.
  • Thauvin then gets in on the fun with a confident strike from just inside the box.
  • We score again in the 77th minute after a swift counter attack ends with Germain scoring his 5th Europa League goal in just two games.
  • Mijat Gacinovic scores a consolation goal just before the end to ruin our clean sheet.
  • The big win puts us joint top of our group with Lazio, while Frankfurt and Arka still await their first points.

Caen (Ligue 1)

Team News:

  • Jordan Amavi and Hiroki Sakai return to the full back positions at the expense of Hubocan and Sarr.
  • Luiz Gustavo and Morgan Sanson are back in midfield, with Lucas Ocampos and Thauvin out wide.
  • Payet starts just behind sole striker Kostas Mitroglou.

Match Report:

  • Mitroglou heads us into the lead from Thauvin’s corner in the 15th minute.
  • However, Caen equalise through Casimir Ninga in the 27th minute.
  • Shortly afterwards, Paul Baysse brings down Thauvin for a penalty which Payet coolly converts to give us a 2-1 lead.
  • In the second half, Payet heads in to make it 3-1.
  • The win sees us sitting 6 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 ahead of Nice, Lyon, and Montpellier.

Nice (Ligue 1)

Team News:

  • Luiz Gustavo drops back into defence alongside Sertic, as Rami is moved to the bench.
  • Strootman takes his place in midfield alongside Sanson, while there are no changes to the front four.

Match Report:

  • The first half is fairly even, with both sides limited to shots from distance.
  • Thauvin makes the breakthrough in the second half with strong finish through a crowd of players.
  • Mitroglou doubles the lead after the ball fortuitously bounces into his path in the box.
  • Thauvin scores another in the closing minutes as he confidently finishes Lopez’s lofted ball over the Nice defence.
  • The 3-0 win maintains our six point lead over the chasing pack.

Lazio (Europa League)

Team News:

  • Rami returns to partner Sertic in defence, while Hubocan and Sarr start in the full back positions.
  • Strootman and Lopez are the midfield duo, while Sanson plays further forward in the no. 10 role.
  • Njie replaces the rested Thauvin out wide, while Europa League specialist Germain leads the attack.

Match Report:

  • Ocampos gives us the lead in the 25th minute, and that’s enough to give us the win.
  • Lazio had some decent chances in the second half but could not convert any of them.
  • The win means we have 9 points from our three games in the group. Lazio are in 2nd place with 6 points, followed by Frankfurt on 3 points.

PSG (Ligue 1)

Team News:

  • Amavi and Sakai return to the back four in place of Hubocan and Sarr.
  • The first choice midfield pairing of Luiz Gustavo and Sanson also return.
  • Payet, Thauvin, and Mitroglou return to the lineup, while Ocampos is dropped to the bench.

Match Report:

  • Edinson Cavani draws first blood for PSG with the opening goal in the 25th.
  • Shortly before halftime, we are handed a lifeline as Payet equalises from the penalty spot.
  • However, we can’t even make it to the break level as Kylian Mbappe rifles a shot into the top corner on the stroke of halftime.
  • In the second half we push for an equaliser, but are undone by Cavani’s 2nd goal 15 minutes from the end.
  • The defeat means PSG close the gap between them and us to 7 points, but Montpellier have a chance to close in to 3 points with their game in hand.

So that brings us to the end of October 2018. Overall, it’s been a good month as we continue to set the pace in Ligue 1 and look set to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League. The defeat to PSG was a disappointing way to end the month though.
