Welcome to Episode 3 of my FIFA 19 Real Madrid Career Mode series! Last month, we maintained our 100% record in La Liga and won our first Champions League match against Roma.

This month, we’ve got El Clasico in La Liga, two Champions League games against CSKA and Viktoria Plzan, and the first leg of a Copa Del Rey tie against Mallorca.

Let’s see how we got on in Episode 3 of this FIFA 19 Real Madrid Career Mode series.

October 2018

CSKA Moscow (Champions League)

  • Keylor Navas starts in goal, with Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, and Alvaro Odriozola in front of him.
  • Toni Kroos, Marcos Llorente, and Isco make up the midfield trio.
  • Karim Benzema starts up front, flanked by Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.

Match Report:

  • Asensio smashes in at the near post to give us a 5th minute lead.
  • Ten minutes later, Isco makes it 2-0 with a great finish past Igor Akinfeev.
  • Despite dominating the entire match, we can’t beat Akinfeev again so it finishes 2-0.
  • With six points from two games, we lead the group ahead of Roma and Viktoria Plzen who both have three points. CSKA are bottom with no points on the board yet.

Alaves (La Liga)

  • Casemiro and Luka Modric are restored to the midfield, with Llorente dropping out..
  • Isco is pushed forward to the wing alongside Benzema and Asensio.

  • Benzema gives us an early lead with a great shot into the top corner.
  • Ibai Gomez is sent off after only 11 minutes for a shocking tackle on Kroos.
  • Benzema doubles his tally with a curling finish in the 15th minute.
  • In the second half, Kroos and Isco add further goals with great finishes of their own.
  • The 4-0 win sees us open up a 10 point lead over Barcelona, Villarreal, and Real Sociedad, although the former two have a game in hand.

Levante (La Liga)

Team News:

  • At the back, Nacho takes the place of Ramos, while Odriozola replaces Carvajal.
  • In midfield, Llorente comes in for Casemiro in the holding role.
  • Isco continue on the left wing, while Vazquez gets the start ahead of Asensio.

Match Report:

  • We get off to a fantastic start as Kroos gives us a 4th minute lead with a low finish into the corner.
  • However, Emmanuel Boateng equalises five minutes later against the run of play.
  • Marcelo then gives away a stupid penalty which is converted by Roger to give Levante a shock lead.
  • Fortunately, Isco equalises in the 36th minute with great strike into the top corner.
  • In the second half, we go in front thanks to Modric’s volley with 20 minutes to go.
  • However, Levante grab a shock draw in the last minute of normal time as Raphael Dwamena’s shot squeezes past Courtois at his near post.
  • The draw means our perfect start to the season is over, but we still hold a healthy five point lead over Barcelona.

Viktoria Plzen (Champions League)

Team News:

  • Navas starts in goal, while the back four looks a little different with Sergio Reguilon, Jesus Vallejo, Nacho, and Odriozola.
  • In midfield, Dani Ceballos starts in place of Modric.
  • Mariano takes the place of the rested Benzema, while Vinicius Junior comes in on the left flank.

Match Report:

  • Mariano goes close with a shot that flashes inches wide of the post.
  • He soon makes amends in the 28th minute with the opening goal.
  • Shortly after half-time, he turns provider as he slips in Asensio to score our 2nd goal.
  • The comfortable 2-0 win makes it 3 wins from 3 games and we’re 3 points clear of Roma at the top of Group G.

Barcelona (La Liga)

Team News:

  • Courtois comes back in between the sticks, with the usual back four also returning.
  • In midfield, Casemiro returns alongside Kroos and Modric.
  • Despite a fine performance in the last game, Mariano drops to the bench as Benzema returns along with Lucas.

Match Report:

  • In the first half, Asensio goes close with a curling effort that goes just wide.
  • Shortly after half-time, we make the breakthrough as Modric fires in a shot from just outside the box.
  • He then picks up a booking for a nasty tackle of Croatia teammate Ivan Rakitic, before blowing a great chance to make it 2-0.
  • Nonetheless, we hold on to win and extend our lead over Barcelona to 8 points.

Mallorca (Copa Del Rey)

Team News:

  • Wholesale changes for the Copa Del Rey as Navas starts in goal behind a back four of Reguilon, Nacho, Vallejo, and Odriozola.
  • Isco, Llorente, and Ceballos make up the midfield trio.
  • Mariano and Vinicius return to the lineup alongside Lucas, who is the only player who retained from the team that started in El Classico.

Match Report:

  • Lucas opens the scoring with a fine finish in the 11th minute.
  • Ceballos doubles the lead midway through the first half, after a neat one-two with Mariano.
  • Mariano makes it 3-0 in the second half with a volley at the near post.
  • Asensio wraps it up in the final minute with the best goal of the evening: a strike with the outside of his foot into the top corner.
  • The 4-0 win gives us a comfortable lead to take into the return leg.

So that brings us to the end of October. A lacklustre performance against Levante cost us our perfect record in La Liga, but we bounced back with an important win in El Clasico.
